So hero girls, tell us--what do you see?

  1. Abbi HartMay 16, 2014 at 3:24 AM

Wow, what a picture! Here's what I see:
I see strength and courage. I see someone who has seen so much evil yet still believes in fighting for what it is right. I see a fierce desire to protect and a willingness to do so no matter what the cost ends up being. I see a man hardened by what he's lost and they things he's had to face. To everyone else he seems hard and cold but underneath all that is a compassionate, loving, and loyal heart, you just have to earn access to it. I also see an underlying sense of humor that only those close to him ever get to experience. I see someone who isn't concerned with how they appear, and wears their scar as a badge of honor. I imagine that whatever hangs from the cord around his neck means the world to him but just appears ordinary to the naked eye.
In short, I see a hero.

Abbi, I don't know if I should be amazed or freaked out right now. This will make more sense when you've read his book, but wow, girl, just wow.

  2. Dawn JanisMay 16, 2014 at 8:07 AM

He's rugged, handsome, and he's rough around the edges. I see strength, gorgeous piercing eyes. I see someone who has been through a lot in life and has the wounds to show it (scar on his cheek), yet there is a vulnerability about him too. I think he's a soldier or another hero.

Good stuff, Dawn. Also accurate and yes, he has been through a lot. A LOT...

Haha. Oh Carol. Love you, girl. =) Great job considering you knew his face from before.

    1. Fruition

    2. Hero-girl worthy stare.

    3. Not the original J-man, but one that the author loves.

    4. Great stubble; just the right amount.

5.He’s got the eyes of a tiger (lion), a fighter
    Dancing through the fire
    Cause he is a champion
    and you're gonna hear him
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh.

    6. Many orange heads in his future.

    1. Nancy KimballMay 19, 2014 at 11:42 PM

I have already given you grief over the Katy Perry lyrics so I will just say you rock, Whitney. You will always have the honor of being my (and therefore Jonathan's) first critique partner. =)

  5. Natalie MonkMay 16, 2014 at 10:54 PM

Now THAT is what I call subtext, Nancy. Just leave out the words completely and make us guess. ;D

Well, at the risk of getting the answer COMPLETELY wrong...

I see a Phoenix. A character who, like his author, came through fire and learned to rise above the ashes. :) I know there's so much more to Jonathan than I yet understand. I look forward to diving into the book very soon!

Oh, P.S. This is cheesy, I know, but I also see a lion there. He may tame lions, but I'm thinking he'll find himself tamed by God and a good woman's love. :)

Oh, gah-lee. I can't resist one last try. Is it love? That tiny bit of vulnerability behind all the toughness.

Now you know I'm totally guessing randomly. I'm just blinded by all that "orange." :)

    1. Nancy KimballMay 19, 2014 at 11:43 PM

"Tamed by God and a good woman's love." LOVE IT. Can't wait to see what you think when we make it to the top of the TBR. =)

With a smooth brow, I see a man that does not worry. With a strong jaw line, I see a man that is set and determined. With a chiseled sharpness to his face, I see a man that knows what he wants and goes after it with a vengeance. And with those piercing green eyes, I see a man that could break a heart or melt one, take what he wants in one swift exchange, and never look back.

That's deep, Melanie. I gotta chew on that a bit. =)

  7. Kate S (4readin)May 17, 2014 at 8:01 AM

I see strength and courage. In his sharp green eyes, I see feiceness and determination. His body speaks of being used to hard conditions and physical excretion. He is altheletic, strong, and not afraid to stand. He had a few scars that gives us a glimpse of his rough, possibly dark past. His subtle whiskers implies that he is not vain or proud but is mindful enough if his appearance to not be unkempt and to have knowledge of good manners. He may not be living in "society" now, but he has had dealings with it before and knows how to follow some of those rules. He also knows the rule of survival.

It's an intriguing picture. I cannot wait to see what you have planned!

Kate, you are either an avid reader or an author. Enjoyed your insight into this hero. =)

  8. AngiMay 17, 2014 at 3:40 PM

Wow! Already some great answers here. So here is what I see. On the one hand, I see a man who has led a hard life, though his years are not many. A man that has seen things that no one should have to see. One that is courageous in battle and has survived through sheer will and determination. I see a man that has built up many walls and finds it difficult to trust. On the other hand, I see a man who is vulnerable and longs to be loved. One that, though hard on the outside, has a tender heart. A man that is determined to stand up for truth and justice and in what he believes. One that is a defender and who would die to protect those he loves. And I see a man who longs to know the God of the universe. I see a true hero!

Awesome photo! It suits Johnathan well! :)

    1. Nancy KimballMay 19, 2014 at 11:46 PM

Angi, it's like you already know him... it means we got our picture right. =)

  9. Gretchen E.K. EngelMay 19, 2014 at 10:40 AM

Green eyes, the jaw line, and cleft chin. Pretty much after that the synapses stopped firing.
    Personality wise - fierce determination

    1. Nancy KimballMay 19, 2014 at 11:48 PM

LOL. Oh GEKE, LOL. Yeah... pretty much...
